Time Management:
Your Time Management Skills are of the Essence

Have you ever thought about how much time you have and more precisely how much time you ultimately waste? In everything that we do, your time is of the essence and it controls every event, activity and purpose we hold all our lives. The great Vince Lombardi once said, we never lost the game, we just ran out of time and that is the crux of the matter, we do not realise the value of our most precious and limited resource, time.

Have you ever heard people saying I just do not have the time to complete this task, I do not have the time to spare to meet you for lunch, that is something that will have to wait, I just do not have the time and the list goes on. Is the time that is allocated to you being used productively and to its full potential. It is not a case of not having the time, but how we choose to spend it.

Everyone is given the same amount of time each and every day. It is not difficult to understand how a person spends his or her time by looking at the state of their individual lives. If I was to say to you that I was going to put a substantial amount of money into your bank account at the start of each and every day and there were no restrictions to how you use it, except that at the end of the 24 hours, any money that was not used would be forfeited. What would you do? You would of course withdraw every bit of it, knowing the same amount would be there the next day.

That is exactly how it works with time, you and everybody else is given 24 hours each and every day and the amount that is unused for any projects or for that matter anything else cannot be regained or added to the next day, it is lost forever and unlike the previous example, you cannot withdraw it for it to be used at a later time.

You might ask yourself why is it that some people seem to have all the time in the world and I struggle with the time that is afforded to me. It is all a question of value, how you use it and what it brings you. The only difference between you and somebody that truly benefits from the time that is given to them is how much time you waste. You need to look at how you use it for worthless and unproductive tasks and realise that your time is of the essence and needs to be used with a certain value attached to it. When you start to do this, you will think twice about giving it up too easily.
