Time Management:
Time Management Workshop Tips - How to Block Off Your Time
After you managed to identify and order your priorities according to their importance, you must place them into 15-minute time slots on your weekly calendar: this is what people call time-blocking. There is no better system than time blocking for time management on a daily, weekly, monthly and even lifelong basis.
Those who do time blocking will witness miraculous transformations in their lives: they will experience success measured in income, career, personal growth, spiritual transformation, health and relationships. Time blocking requires quite some practice, so don't expect miracles from the first day you are doing it. But if you manage to do this regularly, you will be able to understand the key to time management.
Because it is a complex skill, achieving a level of time-blocking mastery takes time, from 18 to 24 months. You will need ongoing reinforcement, repetition and refreshment along the way. It is totally ok to feel stressed or sore from the time-blocking exercises: this is a sign that your efforts are slowly building up.
As a start, you will have to purchase a daily calendar divided into 15-minute increments. Even this relatively small time frame can endanger your ability to meet your goals: if you loose out two or three blocks, maybe you will not be able to finish a project on time.
The first thing to do having a blank page in your face is to divide your day between personal and work time. This will help you balance your professional duties with your personal advancement. If you want Saturday and Sunday to be time off, you should block it into your schedule, otherwise there is the risk that your work will creep into your personal time. You should be as concrete as you can with your time-block schedule: the more action is written on paper, the better.
You can give weight to personal activities by blocking them out: this way you can be sure they are not overtaken by obligations that are not that important in the long run. Usually the first thing people trade in for work is their personal life.
However, in the long run you will not be able to work without having personal time, so it is recommended to hold fast and tight to your personal area. Another advantage is that having well delimited personal time will help you establish a reasonable end to your workday: if you have to meet your friends, you will be more motivated to wrap up your project.
