Time Management Workshop - Managing Your Time Well

For some people, time management comes naturally. For others, it is an acquired skill. Those who have difficulty managing their time can learn to juggle their responsibilities more efficiently with a few simple tips and tricks.

First, try creating a daily schedule or to-do list. It is easier to plan your day when you know what tasks you will need to accomplish. Writing down these tasks also helps you to stay organized and to avoid forgetting important items. When creating your schedule, plan the most difficult tasks for the time of day when you are most alert. For example, if you are a morning person, then all of your challenging tasks should take place in the AM hours.

Next, it is important to balance your day by scheduling time for yourself and for the important people in your life, like friends and family. One of the keys of time management is to find balance. Creating a schedule can be a good way to achieve this. You might schedule a date night with your spouse or lunch with a friend in order to balance your personal and professional life.

Prioritizing is another key to good time management. You should prioritize your most important tasks and delegate less important tasks to others when possible. Nonessential tasks can be eliminated altogether. It is also essential not to procrastinate or to spend unnecessary time perfecting a task that has already been satisfactorily completed. Procrastination and perfection are bad for time management.

In general, a good rule to follow is Pareto's principle. This principle states that 80 percent of your accomplishments should results from 20 percent of your efforts. You can use this principle when planning your time. Focus on the tasks that create the greatest rewards in order to achieve balance.

These tips can help you improve your time management skills and lead a more fulfilling life.
