There are people who are talented in something, or look beautiful, or have a particular skill. They may be more intelligent than the average, have more money, energy, influence, connections or passion. One thing is perfectly equal: everybody has the same number of hours each day.
Because of this, it is only up to you how you use the 24-hour cycle to get the most of it. Taking control about how you spend your time can give you enormous satisfactions. Even though you may not feel it, you have total control of your time - no matter if you work overtime, have small kids, or you are busy studying.
If you are bound to discover how to manage your time well you will have to have some introspection, a few good habits and organizational skills, and several logistical and tactical tools. Effective time management is not rocket science: it is achievable for all of us, after learning some basic rules.
As a first step, getting to know yourself is very important: take your time and try to make an honest assessment about your strengths, a thorough evaluation of your goals. Think about how much your time is worth, and try to observe how your focus throughout the day is affected by your personal energy and behavior patterns.
You can start with assessing your strengths and weaknesses: try to write down a list with the things you know you are really good at, and the things you feel you are incompetent. Be honest with yourself: most people are really good only at five or six things, so if your strength-list is much longer than that, it means you are not honest, or you don't know yourself really well.
Writing down these lists is important because this way you will be able to see which are your strengths that bring the most return on your efforts and propel you forward to achieve your goals. Developing further these strengths is much more productive than trying to acquire new skills endlessly, and trying to be the best at everything.
It is also good to see the areas where you suffer from lack of skills. If you need some skills to accomplish your goals, then you will have to develop those skills. Your time should be invested in maintaining or developing your strengths and acquire or improve the skills that you don't have, but you need to reach your goals.
