As I introduce myself as a time management coach and trainer, the standard response I get it, "Everyone needs to improve their time management skills." It is true: everyone needs it. However, a very few actually get around to doing something about it. What holds them back?
In my opinion, the term "time management" is a misnomer. You really cannot "manage" time. The best that you can do is to manage your life within the time available, and, therefore, extract the greatest value from your life. Thus, these skills go into managing your time: should it be called "life management?"
I found a simple and yet powerful secret that can improve your time management skills to a very high degree. Others may say that this is the same secret that can help you improve yourself in any area. It is indeed the universal secret to achieving any goal.
The secret is motivation. If you don't have the right motivation, you will not be able to achieve anything. If you seek to improve your time management skills because "someone asked you to" or "to please/impress someone," you will not do as well as you would if you were doing it for your own self. You need the right motivation.
What do you want to do? What activity attracts you to the extent that you would give a king's ransom in order to get to do it? Set this as your goal, your objective. Promise yourself that if you achieved your target in time management skills, you will reward yourself with this activity. The reward must be attractive enough that you will strive to reach it with a single mindedness of purpose. Only when you are so motivated will you reach your goal.
Motivation is the most important element in achieving any goal. A suitable reward can be a very good motivation.
