Each day, the average employee only has about 8 hours which they can use in the office to accomplish all of the tasks and responsibilities that they would be able to have to do. For most people, 8 hours is just simply not enough time with the overwhelming amount of work that they need to finish what they need to each and every single day. But there are actually a number of employees and managers who are able to finish all they need to finish within this timeframe, and still have some time to relax. How is this possible?
The answer to this is time management. Time management is a skill that you can develop over time through constant practice and discipline that would help you maximize the hours you spend in your workplace, allowing you to complete all the needed tasks to be finished within the day and still having some spare time to relax and unwind before you head home to be with your family.
Here are just some time management tips to help you maximize your hours of work in the office.
Have a To-Do List
Instead of merely just starting with the load of paperwork that is waiting for you on your office desk, take some time to create a to-do list which includes all the tasks that you need to finish for today. When making your to-do list, make it a point to prioritize those tasks that would require the most amount of concentration, focus and resources to be accomplished. The least priority should be given to tasks which you can consider to be routine and non-challenging.
Know Your Highs and Lows
Be attentive on which times of the day is your energy level at its highest and lowest when determining the tasks that you need to finish. As a rule of thumb, work on the complex tasks during those periods when your energy levels are high since this would allow you to be able to focus and concentrate on these tasks more, allowing you to finish this right away in an efficient manner. Set those routine and non-challenging tasks during the times of the day that you feel your energy levels are low since these do not require much thinking and analysis on your part.
Keep Your Desk Clean
Keeping your desk organized can do wonders when it comes to time management. Apart from helping you easily find the things that you need in order to complete every single task you need to attend to within the day, having a clean desk minimizes the feeling of stress and becoming overwhelmed with the tasks that you need to finish within the day, helping you maximize your time in the office.
