What he did in preparation for his games was extreme repetitive actions. That is how any master, mastered his craft is by repetitive action. This can not be a short-term type of activity this must be a long-term focus.
If I want to have the best jump shot I would shoot hundreds of shots a day to increase accuracy. Most people have busy lives and need to tend to necessary responsibilities in order to survive. I imagine you have a job that requires you to continue working until retirement.
You also have to sleep everyday so there is more time out of your day. In your free time you must utilize the most of it to train yourself to become elite at your craft. Time management is extremely important for a person that has a lot a responsibility.
Time management is important to master in order to train yourself to operate like a machine. A machine simply just works and does not have to think. All of the parts and components that have been previously arranged and build do the thinking for the machine.
That is what your schedule will do for you. You write out your schedule with all of your responsibilities for each day and go through it like a checklist. You'll find that it's easier to operate off of a list then freelancing each and every day.
To be able to make a schedule each day you must have a bigger picture of what you want to accomplish. The hardest part of working like a machine is the actual work. One day here and there is not going to cut it. You must complete your schedule each and every day to see the results that you desire.
Nothing is guaranteed in life. You might have your desired results but there is no guarantee that things will happen exactly the way that you plan. Unfortunately disappointment is a part of life and there is no way around it.
Consistent practice of following your schedule will definitely give you more chance of succeeding than if you are inconsistent. So consistency, discipline and practice will help you train yourself to operate like a machine.
