Time Management:
Time Management Workshop - 4 Essential Tools to Help You Succeed With a Time Management Plan

Why do you need a plan in the first place?

Well, the most obvious reason is because having a plan increases your chances of success and without one, you're basically "planning to fail."

Look, I know it's totally possible to happen to get lucky and have some success, but I guarantee you that your success won't be long term and trying to move forward with luck as your foundation will prove to be very unpredictable and unreliable. And besides if luck were the ideal way to create a foundation for success well then everyone and their moms would be gambling away on the blackjack table in Las Vegas.

Obviously, this is the same with time management since aimlessly working throughout your day without a solid plan to follow your results will purely be depending on how lucky you are that particular day. This is no way to work if productivity and results is your goal, which is why having a time management plan is critical.

So what is a time management plan? On the most basic level, it is a plan which consists of steps to serve as your means of achieving your desired objective in the shortest possible time. Throughout history the most successful people have implemented management plans and would not work without one. For many, it has been their only means of attaining any sort of productivity or result.

Simply by writing your tasks out on paper or on a computer you've put yourself in a great position to become productive. Doing this ensures that you're making the most out of your time and using it to get you optimal results.

You see, when creating your time management plan you can either use the old way of applying pen to paper or you can leverage the power of technology using the software available on the internet.

A time management software's main value is in allowing you to easily and quickly format your own specific plan designed to satisfy every one of your needs and tracks your progress along the way.

Many people feel that it's much more effective, convenient and reliable in regards to actually completing tasks and getting results.

The time management plan software that many successful people and even everyday people, like you and I, use are:

1.) iCal

iCal is for Mac users and has everything you need to keep your time in check. The software comes equipped with an alarm which you can program to alert you each time you're due to begin a new task. In my opinion this software gives most of the paid time management systems out there on the market a good run for their money and if you're a Mac user you already have what you need to maximize your time, for free.

2.) Windows Calendar

If you run on a windows operating system you'll more than likely be acquainted with Windows Calendar, based along the same premise as iCal, you can program in your daily tasks along with reminders and alerts and the best thing is, both iCal and Windows Calendar are free and already come with your default software. If you're not familiar with them it pays to get acquainted to because it is just as effective as the paid tools you can find online.

These next two are free software tools to eliminate distraction and improve productivity with your time management plan:

3.) Rescue time

A web-based time management and analytics tool that allows you to voluntarily block the distracting parts of the internet for a period of time you specify, pause tracking, set up automated scheduling, or selectively delete tracked data.

You can even eliminate timesheets by manually assigning blocks of your day to specific projects and let Rescue Time fill in the details. If you forget to assign project time, Rescue Time gives you an easy overview of your time to help you fill in the blanks.

4.) Evernote:

An impressive tool used by the most productive technologists in the world to eliminate 90% of the paper clutter in your life, clearing out your office clutter in one to three hours. The main use of this software is to allow you to easily capture information from anywhere using whatever device you have at the time and then find that piece of information whenever you need it. The most effective ways I use it is by taking photographs, scanning documents, simple copy and pasting and taking snapshots of websites. This tool really gets rid of all those scattered bookmarks, favorites, and open tabs.

So there's four of the many different types of time management plan software that you can use.

But just remember that as with most things in life, any software you choose to use is only as valuable as the amount of time and energy you put in. No matter how great or effective a time management plan program is, it will be of no value to you if you don't put it to good use.
